The 2019 Asia Artist Awards, hosted by Star News, were held in Vietnam on November 26.
There were five Daesangs (grand prizes) from the night, and they were Song of the Year, Performance of the Year, Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Actor of the Year.
Red Velvet won the Song of the Year for “Umpah Umpah.” The girl group said, “Something we said to our fans during our concert was, ‘We’ll always show performances that give you happiness.’ We’re very thankful, and we’ll continue to develop this positive relationship. This is our first Daesang since our debut. We’ll keep working hard and repay you with good songs and performances.”
After receiving the Performance of the Year award, GOT7 shared, “We sincerely thank Ahgase (GOT7’s fans). We’re already approaching our seventh year [since debut], and we think this is an award given to us by Ahgase. We’ll keep working hard, and we’ll never change.” Jinyoung added, “2019 was a very cold year. We’ll receive this great award and share the energy with our juniors with the hopes that 2020 will be a warm year.”
TWICE was given the Artist of the Year award, and the members said, “Receiving this award, it feels like the time we spent dreaming of becoming singers and debuting are all passing by. As time passes, we’re feeling the value of the people next to us. We thank ONCE and the staff. We will become healthier and healthier as time passes.” Momo added, “Thank you for giving us such a big award even though we’re lacking. Though Mina wasn’t able to join us, I think her heart is here with us. It’s the 1500th day since our debut, so I will give today’s Daesang to ONCE.”
Winning Album of the Year with their recent album “An Ode,” SEVENTEEN shared, “It’s an honor to be able to receive such a valuable award as SEVENTEEN. We thank AAA and Star News for giving us a great award, and we truly thank Carats for making us shine brightly. We as SEVENTEEN make our own albums, so we’re even happier that we were given such an amazing award.”
As the winner of the Actor of the Year award, Jang Dong Gun stated, “I thank everyone who loved ‘Arthdal Chronicles.’ The drama was a difficult challenge for everyone, and I think this award will provide great comfort. We all have positive sides to ourselves, but we also live with hardships. I would like to encourage you to overcome them without feeling discouraged. Lastly, I thank the Star News staff for providing this opportunity.”
